Vicken Parsons: Pool

Between 8 February – 25 March 2018, the West Court Gallery hosted a show of paintings by Vicken Parsons under the title Pool.

Vicken Parsons is a British artist who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She makes small, intimate paintings on wood panel using thin layers of oil paint. Her subjects are usually of landscapes or architectural spaces, some remembered and others imagined.

The exhibition at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½Ó¿Ú of 15 small, even diminutive, paintings was surprisingly immersive. They offered the viewer an opening onto an environment in which planes, dimensions, forms and graduated densities of light and colour seem to be caught in the process of recalibrating all their relationships.

Recent solo exhibitions include Ivorypress, Madrid (2017); Alan Cristea Gallery, London (2012, 2016); Christine Koenig Galerie; Vienna (2016); Roche Court, Salisbury (2014) and Kettle's Yard, Cambridge (2014). Recent group exhibitions include Royal Academy of Arts, London (2018); Foundling Museum, London (2016); Turner Contemporary, Margate (2016); Tate Britain, London (2015); Southampton City Art Gallery (2010).

Her work is held in several important public collections including the Tate collection, Belvedere Museum collection, UK Government Art Collection, Arts Council Collection, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art's collection and the Jerwood Foundation.
